20 Minute, 40 Minute or 60 Minute Classes

This course concentrates on students’ speaking ability and practical Chinese conversation skills in everyday life in China. There are four different ability levels. Students can take a free 20 minute level test with a Chinese conversation teacher. Tuition fee includes the lesson material. Classes are taught one-to-one by native Chinese speakers and last for 20 to 60 minutes.

 

Please note: There is flexibility in terms of whether students want to exclusively use the pinyin system or also want to be able to recognise and grasp the meaning of an increasing range of characters.

 

We provide many a rage of activities and topics that make classes both stimulating and enjoyable. Our goal is to make you feel confident and comfortable in conversation!

 


Level Description:

Level 1

This level aims to establish a basic understanding of Chinese. It begins with an introduction/ review of Chinese pronunciation and tones followed by an analysis of the pinyin system. There is an emphasis on building a foundation for communication through practicing simple everyday Chinese conversation.

Course Targets and Main Topics

  1. To be able to introduce yourself/ others
  2. To give basic details about yourself
  3. Asking for directions
  4. Agreeing and disagreeing
  5. Buying items/ Asking how much?

Level 2

This level builds on an already existing familiarity with basic Chinese conversation and pinyin. It also focuses on pronunciation. The aim is to be able to be able to expand vocabulary, so that the student is able to converse with a native speaker in a basic manner relating to several practical situations.

Course Targets and Main Topics

  1. To discuss likes and dislikes
  2. Offering and accepting/ declining things
  3. Asking for help
  4. Complimenting
  5. Apologising

Level 3

Students will already be able to converse comfortably using basic Chinese conversation skills. This level concentrates on talking about progressively more complex topics and expressing oneself using more complex grammar and sentence structures. It builds negotiation skills through a series of role-plays.

  1. To be able to use more complex sentence patterns
  2. To be able to undertake basic negotiations.
  3. Making appointments
  4. Asking for and giving advice
  5. Expressing feelings

Level 4

This level is for students who can communicate effectively in Chinese. The course focuses on organising ideas in a fluent and coherent way. Students will be confident about using their spoken Chinese in practical, everyday situations and will also have begun to communicate effectively about more advanced topics.

Students can take a free 15 minute test with a native Chinese speaking teacher either to practice their Chinese or to register for a course. The test consists of both grammar and speaking sections.
